Disney’s California Adventure has just opened Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and the revamped attraction have several twists. Rapid drops and ascents are combined with video scenes filled with the funny scenes and themes associated with the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie franchise. Plus, everyone gets a random profile so that what happens is always a surprise!
When you first walk into the queue area, you’ll find yourself in an otherworldly, alien museum, where the “Collector” character from the first film keeps his vast extraterrestrial collection in suspended glass cases, which is truly awesome. You’ll be greeted with a video introduction from the Collector (played by Benicio Del Toro), who explains that the Guardians of the Galaxy — Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon — are his prized possessions. Next, you’ll move into the Collector’s office where you will experience an audio-animatronic Rocket fill you in on the background story and explain your mission: Help the Guardians escape. The super-realistic animatronic raccoon looks amazing and gives an impressive performance.
The ride begins with Rocket pulling the plug on the power to the Collector’s fortress, triggering a blackout that enables the Guardians’ escape. Throughout the experience you will rock out to a retro soundtrack inspired by the two Guardians movies as the jailbreak ensues. The ride briefly pauses four or five times during its quick ascents and descents with humorous prison break video scenes with the Guardians .
