As summer vacation comes to a near end and the new school year is fast approaching, it only makes sense that you take advantage of the rest of your summer.  Many kids will be returning to school in late August so make sure to plan a mini vacation or visit a couple of attractions while you’re still on summer break.  Spend some quality time with the family by visiting local attractions around Orange County.  Visitors who stay at hotels near Anaheim will typically spend a day at well-known attractions like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.  However, if you’re traveler or local looking for something more affordable to do with the family while still having fun, then check out the local museums, mini amusement parks, and zoos around the area.  You don’t need to spend an arm and a leg to have some fun as you would do at Disneyland or even Knott’s Berry Farm.  There are several other places to explore outside of Disneyland.  Orange County is filled with Southern California’s most exciting attractions, so don’t limit yourself to these bigger attractions instead explore these smaller and intimate attractions:

Discovery Science Center

Parents are encouraged to take their kids to the Discovery Science Center for a fun learning experience.  This museum is a great place to educate kids on various science-related topics while keeping them entertained with cool displays, artifacts, games, and even mini shows.  The Discovery Science Center puts together different exhibits throughout the year.  Past exhibits have included Bubblefest, Bob-the-Builder, and Star Wars.  Now open is the Lego Castle Adventure which invites kids of all ages to participate in becoming master castle builders.

Santa Ana Zoo

If you would like to check out some exotic animals including 50 different types of monkeys then come by the Santa Ana Zoo at the Prentice Park.  Adults and kids will get to enjoy nature and the outdoors while exploring the various multi-species exhibits including Tierra de las Pampas, Zoofari Express, & Conservation Carrousel.   Check out the events calendar for upcoming exhibits.  The Zoofari State Faire starts August 24 from 5:30pm to midnight.  This is a gala event which includes dancing, food, cocktails, and live auctions.  Mingle, eat, and enjoy some wonderful company.

Boomer’s Irvine

For more thrill and adventure, then visit Boomer’s Irvine.  This mini theme park includes miniature golf, go karts, flame thrower, batting cages, bumper boats, rock wall and laser tag.  There is also an arcade room for gamers to enjoy.  This is a great way to spend some quality time with the entire family.  For pricing and promotions, click here.
