If you are looking for a great way to get outdoors and do something that the whole family will love, then look no further than the 56th annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival from May 23 – 26! To attend the fair it is completely FREE, although in order to get on all the fun rides, tickets must be purchased. The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival first opened up in 1958 as a way to bring the community together. Today, hundreds of people from all over California come to Garden Grove to be a part of the celebration. Regular festival attendees, friends and families planning to stay in hotels near Garden Grove are strongly encouraged to not miss this popular event!
Though the festival starts on Friday, the annual Strawberry Parade takes place on Saturday at 10 a.m. It is a great parade filled with everything the crowd has come to expect – floats, music, local high school bands, equestrians, and even characters such as Knott’s Berry Farm’s Snoopy! Join thousands of other people as they watch Miss Garden Grove and the rest of the court ride down the parade. Each year, there is a celebrity Grand Marshal and other local celebrities that are honored at this time. For those who are interested, there will be festival breakfast that is free to the public. Breakfast will be held at 8am, which will be at the Garden Grove Community Center on Stanford Avenue 11300. At the breakfast, you will be introduced to all participants on the float!
In recognition and celebration of the Festival’s largest strawberry shortcake in the world over the years, there will be free strawberry shortcake for all! You can get your free slice of cake on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Showmobile at Main and Acacia streets. The fun doesn’t stop there though! There will be classic carnival rides such as the scrambler, a merry go round, Ferris wheel, and more. Spend some time walking around and looking at all the vendors, watch or even participate in some of the contests! This year, some of the contests include the Berry, Berry Beautiful Baby Pageant for cutest baby, the Tiny Tots King and Queen for cutest 3-6 year olds, Redhead Roundup for any redhead of any age, and even a Strawberry Idol Karaoke Contest open to anyone who is 16 years or older!
